Tilden Career Academy High School 

 
 

Edward Tilden Career Academy was constructed in 1905, became a Chicago Public School in 1915, with additions constructed in 1924 and 1943. The school is located in the Canaryville community on the city's South Side. Tilden now serves as a model career academy for 650 students.

Students are admitted on the basis of test scores, academic performance and residence, with priority going to students from the neighborhood attendance area.

Presently, two Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered: English Language & Composition and Government & Politics. Current plans for an expansion of the AP curriculum in the 2011-2012 school year include offerings in Science and Mathematics. Approximately 50 students participate in the AP courses. Tilden currently offers honors placement at all grade levels in each of the four core subject areas (English, Social Studies, Math and Science), as well as in world languages, which include  French and Spanish

Tilden Career Academy offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities including: Academic Decathlon, Asian Club, Business Professionals of America, College Club, Cultural Dance Club, Latino Club, Math Club, Peer Jury, Librarian's Book Club, Spanish Club, Mayor Daley's Book Club, Le Cercle Français, National Honor Society, Vocational Industrial Club of America, African-American Club, Drill Team, JROTC Color Guard, Safety Task Force Club, Spanish Club, Orienteering and Principal's Book Club.

Tilden Career Academy has partnered with many business, civic and educational institutions including: Bank One, Carpenters Apprentice Program, DePaul University, Fashion Group Foundation of Chicago, Ford Motor Company, General Electric, Illinois Restaurant Association, University of Illinois at Chicago and University of Iowa.
